This has been a serious week on www.democratdad.com.
Let's see... I posted about death, sickness, the Grinch, Rudy Giuliani, and the hardness of the earth.
How are you all doing?
Fine?
Good. Me too. We made it through.
So I thought I would post something more light-hearted today... to carry with you into the weekend.
Here's something that cracks up my kids (and never fails to make me smile): "Make 'em Laugh" from Singin' in the Rain:
Oh, and for the non-parent readers of www.democratdad.com...
Here's a poem by Philip Larkin, just for fun. Perhaps it gives voice to your occasional sentiments (no offense taken, really) when you read posts and comments about the terrible dilemmas of parenthood:
'This be the verse'They fuck you up, your mum and dad.
They may not mean to, but they do.
They fill you with the faults they had
And add some extra, just for you.But they were fucked up in their turn
By fools in old-style hats and coats,
Who half the time were soppy-stern
And half at one another's throats.Man hands on misery to man.
It deepens like a coastal shelf.
Get out as early as you can,
And don't have any kids yourself.
Admittedly, Larkin may have a point.
But I don't remember my grandfather or grandmother wearing any memorable old-style hats. And if they did, I sure wish that they had come down to me!
Have a great weekend,
Tom
Enjoyable read,,like so many other entries you've written. Laughing is good for my health; which includes my mind, body and "something inside".
