In all of the fear that my wife and I have confronted over the past week, I want to share with you the word that has helped me. I have felt a need to describe the feeling in our home. The word that works for me is "cherish." We cherish our children, and we cherish each other.
I know that the children feel it too. In turn, I can see that, already at their young ages, they cherish one another, and us, as well. This verb feels right.
Of course we love one another. But "cherish" captures for me some of the care that we have for one another too.
Think of the people in your life whom you cherish... Isn't it somehow satisfying to say it?
Oh Tom, cherish is such a rich word. I can see it in color. I can see it in your home and in mine with my family as well. It applies to all of us who love one another in that very special deep and layered way. It isn't a word we use very often. It is kind of old fashioned.
Thank you for bringing it forth once again. It reminds me of you and Coley and that delightful, ever so slightly, old fashion-ness ( maybe better said tradional-ness)that I find in both of you at the same time that I find you both very moderne and hip.
These days I am spending a lot of time thinking about you and Coley and the kids. Thank you for giving me a new word to use when I count the ways that I love you.
